Melbourne Zoo

When you're visiting Melbourne Australia you must spend at least a day at the Melbourne Zoo getting up close and personal with the hundreds of different species of animals.

You can get to the Zoo by bus, train, car or trams, all easily accessed from your accommodation in Melbourne. To make sure you don't get lost; pick up a map of Melbourne, travel guide or Zoo map at the Zoo shop, or any tourist information centre.

Once you are at the Melbourne Zoo you'll find something for everyone. You and your family will be entertained for hours, looking at the elephants, lions, tigers, kangaroos and other amazing animals.

The exhibits at the Zoo are beautiful, well set up and easy to see and walk around. If you wanted to, you could even have a guided tour in a 4-seater electric cart!

Make sure you book your tour a couple of weeks in advance, so you are not disappointed. All the animals look healthy and happy, but the chimps walking above their enclosure are stunning!

When it is time for lunch, head to the Lakeside Bistro before taking the kids for a ride on the Historic Carousel.

Pram hire is available for the kids to save little legs as the weather in Melbourne can be very warm in summer.

If you're looking for something a bit different, you should consider Melbourne Zoo's Slumber Safaris. If you haven't been to Africa this is the next best thing to a real safari. All meals are included and the 4-star accommodation will be the highlight of your trip.
