The fabulous Yarra River flows through Melbourne, the capital city of Victoria. It runs right through the city to the sea and is the focal point for many outdoor activities and events. Locals really enjoy their river and make good use of it.
As you walk along the river you will see some of the amazing architecture of Federation Square, where you can enjoy a wonderful lunch catering for all tastes, from sausage rolls to gourmet sandwiches. Then continue walking through the Museum of AFL and visit their shop. You'll find plenty to engross even the youngest AFL fan.
Walking down the steps beside the Museum you'll come down to the banks of the Yarra River which is always busy with people cycling, walking, jogging and generally keeping fit, in very pleasant surroundings.
Cross the bridge to Southbank and you are amongst the most incredible shopping and restaurants you could imagine, whilst still in sight of the river. Window shopping could become a sport here, there is so much to look at and enjoy.
Another enjoyable Melbourne river cruise is the one that goes down to Port Philip Bay. It is here that you can see the beautiful tiny fairy penguins coming in from the sea. This is an experience not to be missed.
A river boat Melbourne river cruise has to be a highlight of any visit to Australia.
